Yoga Therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the philosophy and practice of yoga. Through her work primarily with woman over the past 10 years, Laura Marie has developed a question -why do (some) woman find it difficult to embrace their own power and how can they? Using the imagery of Mother Earth as Goddess Energy from which to draw power and nourishment from, women will come together to explore these questions and attempt to find the answers within themselves through practices of yoga, guided meditation and visualization, affirmation, writing, dialoging and sharing and relaxation. Previous yoga experience is not required. *Men are welcomed to all aspects of the retreat except the daily workshop. They may deduct $125 from the price because of this. Estate Concordia in St. John is an eco-friendly resort on
the southeastern corner of the island overlooking Ram Head and Salt Pond Bay.
The resort is perched on a hillside with unparalleled views of the Carribean Sea
and the British Virgin Islands. Accommodations are in Eco-tents, which are
really much more like soft-sided cabins. You can stand up completely in them,
they have beds, and some even have lofts. They have private toilets,
solar-heated showers, kitchen equipment, small bar refrigerators and linens.
All eco-tents are 12 volt solar electric (if you need to do any camera
recharging, they have strip you can use in the office) There is no air
conditioning, but you can easily open up all the side flaps, which are screened,
and let in the ocean breeze. All units are equipped with linens, cooking
utensils, dish soap, body soap, toilet paper, garbage bags, salt/pepper, and
coffee filters. Beach chairs and snorkel gear can be rented. The beach is a 15
min. walk through a nature trail. You should bring your own beach towel. There
is a general store where you can purchase coffee, tea, beer, wine, gifts, some
continental breakfast items and some small grocery items. There is a pool open
from 9am to 9pm with no lifeguard on duty and a café—happy hour is at 4pm. .
Electronic Gadgets, Phones, Cells & Internet A sense of peace and tranquility prevails at Concordia. Units do not have phone service, a/c or televisions. In the interest of maintaining this peaceful environment, audio and video devices are only allowed if used with headphones. And please turn your cell phones to vibrate while on the property. Cell phone coverage on this side of St. John is spotty at best. You may get service, but it will likely be from the British Virgin Islands---watch out for international roaming fees! There is a pay phone on the property and telephone messages can be left with the office and will be delivered to your unit as time permits. Faxes can be accepted for a fee and we are currently working on offering internet service for a fee in our general store.
Checking In Front Desk is open from 8am to 7pm. Sometimes in November, the office closes early at 3pm. Check in is 3pm and check out is 11am. You want to try to arrive at Concordia by 7pm because it gets very dark out here. IF you will be arriving later than that, please call us and let us know 340 693-5855. We will leave a check-in packet in a black mailbox marked “Late Arrivals” just to the right of the Registration doorway. You may want to bring a flash light.
Getting here
Once you get in St. John, you will land in Cruz Bay. You can get a taxi to take you out to Concordia. It will cost $14 plus $2 per piece of luggage. IF there is a group that will be arriving all at once, I can arrange for a group taxi and it will cost $25 pp including bags—roundtrip (will also take you back for your departure). On St. John, I recommend Hamilton Transportation and you can call Mr. Eugene Hamilton at 340 473-6136 when you are on the ferry and tell him where you are and that you are headed to cruz bay and finally to Concordia. He will arrange, as best as he is able, for someone to pick you up when the ferry lands.
Passports At this time traveling to the USVI does not require a passport; however, that is changing all the time. Best to double check. IF you will be traveling to the British Virgin Islands at all a passport is required.
General Etiquette In the Islands it is considered appropriate to say good morning/afternoon/evening to all that you pass and to ask after someone’s general well being before transacting any business.
Packing Pack lightly. There is no porter service here and dress is casual on the island; shorts and tees are standard. You will want your yoga clothes, mat and if possible, blanket for yoga. You will need a flashlight to get around after dark—it is dark here at night, but ideal for stargazing. You will want your swimsuit, beach towel, toothbrush, medicines, insect repellant, a hat, and sunglasses. Helpful items are rechargeable batteries for your camera (eco-tent have chargers in them for standard sized batteries), a beach bag, water bottle. If you like to read at night, you may want a small, portable book lite. The eco-tents are lit, but not ideal for reading. Leave valuables at home.
